Senj is
a town and port in the Velebit Channel. The town lies like an
amphitheatre on the very edge of the forested cove called Senjska
Draga, at the foot of predominantly bare karst slants of Velebit
and Senjsko Bilo. Chief occupations are farming in the immediate
vicinity of the town, livestock breeding, fishing and tourism.
Apart from a well-maintained public beach, south of the town,
toward the cove of Spasovac (3 km), are nice small inlets and
coves, with pleasant beaches and very clear seawater. Camping is
possible in the immediate vicinity - Ujca campsite in a cove with
a beach; farther along the southern coast (6 km) is the village
called Kalic, with a motel. Southwest of Senj, opposite of the
village of Klada, is Goli Otok. |
