BARBAN, a town in the southern part of eastern Istria, 28 km
northeast of Pula, above the Rasa river valley. Chief
occupations are crop farming (wheat) and livestock breeding.

Town of mediaeval aspect, attractive because of its cultural
heritage and because of the event known as "Trka na prstenac",
a chivalrous competition mentioned for the first time in 1696,
resumed in 1976. The competition takes place in the second half
of August. Folk festivals are also regularly held (in August).
The surrounding areas offer hunting and horseback riding
opportunities. |
